WHERE COULD I GO BUT TO THE LORD?

lyrics by J. B. Coats

Living below in this old sinful word,
Hardly a comfort can afford;
Striving alone to face temptations sore,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Chorus
Where could I go, O where could I go,
Seeking a refuge for my soul?
Needing a friend to save me in the end,
Where could I go but to the Lord?

Neighbors are kind, I love them eve’ry one,
We get along in sweet accord;
But when my soul needs manna from above,
Where could I go but to the Lord? Chorus

Life here is grand with friends I love so dear;
Comfort I get from God’s own word;
Yet when I face the chilling hand of death,
Where could I go but to the Lord? Chorus

SWEET SWEET SPIRIT

lyrics by Doris Akers

There’s a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place,
And I know that it’s the Spirit of the Lord;
There are sweet expressions on each face,
And I know they feel the presence of the Lord.

Sweet Holy Spirit, Sweet heavenly Dove,
Stay right here with us, filling us with Your love.
And for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise;
Without a doubt we’ll know that we have been revived,
When we shall leave this place.

There are blessings you cannot receive
Till you know Him in His fullness and believe;
You’re the one to profit when you say,
“I am going to walk with Jesus all the way.”

If you say He saved you from your sin,
Now you’re weak, you’re bound and cannot enter in,
You can make it right if you will yield,
You’ll enjoy the Holy Spirit that we feel.

BY and BY

lyrics by Charles Tindley

Well children, by and by, when the morning comes
All the saints of God together they come.
We will tell the story how the Lord will come
And we’ll understand him better, by and by.

Trials dark on every hand and we cannot understand
All the ways God will lead us
To the blessed promised land.
He will guide us with his eye
And we’ll follow till we die
And we’ll understand him better, by and by.

Well children, by and by, when the morning comes
All the saints of God together they come.
We will tell the story how the Lord will come,
And we’ll understand him better, by and by.

Temptation’s hidden snares often take the sun away
And our hearts are made to bleed
For some thoughtless word or deed.
And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best
But we’ll understand it better, by and by.

Well children by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together they come
We will tell the story how the Lord will come.
And we’ll understand him better, by and by.
And we’ll understand him better, by and by.

PRAYERS of INTERCESSION

As grains of wheat become flour, then bread, gather our prayers for the church, those in need, and all of creation. Add to our most basic ingredients, stir us up and make us into one. A brief silence.

The world needs mercy and to receive your grace. Make them overflow into our lives so we are filled with faith and love. Give understanding hearts to those who experience ecumenical and inter-religious ways of worshipping you. God of grace, hear our prayer.

Your creation groans as it suffers the impacts of pollution and lack of care. As seasons change, renew in us the will to protect plants, animals, and habitats. Bless us with bountiful harvests that all may share. God of grace, hear our prayer.

Your world is shattered and the nations rage. Remember us with tender mercy and kindness. Teach wisdom to us and our elected leaders so we know peace in our world, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts. God of grace, hear our prayer.

Your children wander homeless and the hungry cry for bread. Seek out those who are lost or lonely, anxious or depressed, or struggling with addiction or illness. Provide for those in any need (especially those on our prayer list). God of grace, hear our prayer.

Your work is done with our hands, feet, voices, minds, and hearts. Strengthen the efforts of social and community service agencies, so that outreach, support and ministries of this community will better serve neighbors and welcome the stranger in your name. God of grace, hear our prayer.

Your blessed saints who have died now rest in your presence. We give thanks for and others who have been examples of faith during their lives. Receive us with joy when we come to share eternal life with you. God of grace, hear our prayer.

Gathered together in communion of the Sweet Sweet Holy Spirit, gracious God, we offer these our prayers and songs to you; through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

GOD’S WORK. OUR HANDS

In 2013, the Evangelical Church in America celebrated their 25th Anniversary with a “God’s Work. Our Hands” event which was held on the second Sunday in September. ELCA congregations, groups, and members were invited and encouraged to do some good work on that day “…using our hands to do God’s work of restoring and reconciling communities to Jesus Christ’s name throughout the world.”

This year on Sunday, September 11th, the Councils of Messiah and St. Peter invite you to take part in this church-wide outreach by bringing socks and reusable water bottles with you. Containers will be located at Messiah and St. Peter for this outreach. Donated items will be given to help the residents of the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Lebanon, PA.

Let us continue to find new opportunities to do good works – in Jesus’ name!

A church service with Communion will be held Saturday evening following the evening meal. The deadline for the registration forms is postmarked Monday, September 12, 2022. PERSONAL CARE KITS

When natural disasters strike or war drives families from their homes, as we see over and over in the news, our hearts ache with compassion. But what can we do? Making Lutheran World Relief (LWR) kits is a simple, tangible way to offer comfort to those suffering and express love to our neighbors in need.

Messiah ladies are again collecting personal care kits to be shipped to and distributed by Lutheran World Relief. These kits provide the basic needs for personal hygiene.

Each kit includes the following items:

One light weight bath-size towel (52X27”), dark colors are recommended
2 bars of bath-size soap (4-5oz each)
1 adult toothbrush in the original packaging, or sealed in a business envelope—no plastic wrap
1 study comb
1 metal nail clipper

Please consider purchasing the needed items for one or more kits. There are baskets at the front of the church for each item—no need to remove tags or wrappings. Please have your kit items to the church by September 18th. We will be assembling the kits September 25th during the adult Sunday School hour. Thank you for participating in this LWR ministry!

DEDICATION of BASKETBALL COURT

On Sunday, September 18, after the 10:00 am worship service at Messiah, the basketball court will be dedicated in memory of Charles Funk, Jr.

Charles was always very supportive of the youth activities in the church and in the community. His vision was to have a place for the youth in Fisherville and outside the town to come and enjoy shooting basketball—free of charge.
To support Charles’ vision, the family decided to use the funds received at Messiah in his memory, to purchase and install a basketball court.

A stone will be placed at the basketball court that reads “In Loving Memory of Charles Funk Jr. He was Blessed to be a Blessing.”

SUBS & SANDWICHES FOR SALE

SEEKING FEMALE COMPANIONSHIP

Don’t worry. It’s not what you think. The Weaver family is searching for a companion – preferably female- who’s willing to spend a few occasional Saturday hours (from 3-8pm) with Betsy’s 91yo mother. Another possibility would be to stay with her for a day, here and there. The pay would be hourly. Betsy’s mom has pretty substantial vision, hearing and short-term memory loss. She manages to get around with a cane, play games and perform activities of daily living somewhat independently and better with assistance. Please contact Betsy by email at pweaver168@comcast.net or phone call (717- 896-9128). Please leave a voice message if no answer
